Wow, what a health club…

park slope armoryThe new YMCA inside the Park Slope armory is really fantastic. For years, whenever I visited another city, I wondered why NYC couldn’t have one of these great big health clubs like every other city had. Most of the health clubs I’ve joined over the years were in basements or they were so cramped, I had to wait my turn to sweat!

Not anymore. The long-awaited Y inside the Park Slope armory is finally finished and I joined as quickly as I could. It’s amazing how quickly I’ve managed to forget that part of it is still a homeless shelter for women. That’s part of its charm, right?

IMO, the opening of this club means that the South Slope is now a more desirable place to live than the North Slope. As one of my neighbors said, this is a game changer, folks! I’m sorry but the North Slope is now the upper East Side of Park Slope. Not only does the South Slope have this fabulous new Y, it also has Cafe Grumpy, and that good old standby Jaya Yoga Center.

I may never cross 3rd Street again.

Just what the downtrodden of Park Slope needed, a state of the art publicly funded exercise/amusement center. Those poor PSers, desperately needed a large running track, seeing that there’s no open space anywhere close by.

lol…is there a park nearby or something?
