A “48 Hours Mystery” in my backyard?
As a producer of the CBS News magazine “48 Hours Mystery,” I’m used to hearing stories of women disappearing under strange circumstances but it’s rare for it to happen in my Park Slope, Brooklyn, neighborhood. But that’s exactly what’s happening now. Police are searching for 40-year-old Marion McCleneghan who disappeared from a party on February 7th.
Because she was separated — but still friendly with — her former husband, no one missed her at first and it wasn’t until this past week that her disappearance finally made the local, then citywide press.
Marion was last seen leaving a party at the apartment of her boyfriend on 14th Street and 7th Avenue. Since then, the NY Post has run stories that quote sources who claim that Marion was seen arguing with her boyfriend Richard Eric Sosa who, according to the Post, has refused to take a polygraph test and has asked for a lawyer. He also, again according to the Post, reportedly had a scratch on his face.
Hmmmm. That does not sound good. According to Marion’s estranged husband, she left her cell phone and wallet on her kitchen table but her two computers and a personal journal are missing. So here’s what criminals don’t understand and why this case might soon be solved. Whatever happened to Marion, someone wanted her laptops and journal to disappear along with her. Why? Not for money or he would have taken her wallet. Whoever took her property did not want police to learn what was on her computer BUT if she emailed anything incriminating, all investigators have to do is get a subpoena for her emails accounts. If there are incriminating emails, they live on in the servers of whatever the hosting email company is, Google, Yahoo or whatever.
Of course, there’s always the possibility she wanted to disappear but, in my experience, that is rarely the case.
